Islamabad of late

29 Aug

To provide some perspective, this is the hardest thing that’s happened to me in the past week.

I was stuck in a traffic roundabout, in a taxi, in 110-degree sunshine, for 40 minutes. No vehicles including the motocrycles could escape it in any direction, while the 4 lane road immediately beyond was completely empty. I realized gridlock in its purest form is circular!

Then there was today, which amounts to one of the best most enjoyable moments of my entire life.   A ten-minute ride from my house, out past the edge of town, along a rocky road through a small hidden village that lies adjacent to the diplomatic enclave of Islamabad (shhh), up a well marked but rarely used trail through a lush valley with a clear blue stream gushing down it – at the top, one may find this.  It might be as well have been another planet.  The planet happiness.
